Visitor Services Officer

This grant usually approves one position each year. We apply for two SEED/PEP positions each year. Often, this student divides their time between both jobs, the other being the Collections Assistant.

Position Description/Responsibilities
The Visitor Services Officer will be responsible for the Fredericton Region Museum admissions and assist with the organization of special exhibition projects and the day-to-day operations of the Museum.

Responsible for the daily operations of the Museum’s front desk and gift shop including greeting the public, gallery guides, tours, answering phones, operating the cash register and maintaining attractiveness/cleanliness of front of house and Museum; stocking merchandise, dusting, and straightening. Provide administrative support for the Museum, including data entry and maintenance of membership, statistic databases, correspondence, filing and faxing.

Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

The Fredericton Region Museum is open 7 days a week during the summer and students are expected to be available to work days, week ends and evenings.

Some Duties and Responsibilities
- Greet every customer with an excellent standard of customer care.
- Procure and disseminate information about our programs in person and over the phone.
- Operate cash register, collect admission, membership, program and birthday party fees, process store transactions, process opening and closing paperwork.
- Balance cash register daily.
- Daily bank deposits.
- Copy and maintain literature at front desk.
- Schedule tours and programs
- Assist in mailing new membership packets, renewal notices and newsletters.
- Maintain organized and attractive front desk.
- Maintain cleanliness of Museum
- Provide orientation for tours and programs.

Desired Qualifications
Minimum first year student (preferably in History or Anthropology) with excellent computer skills (MS Office), exceptional organizational, teamwork and multitasking skills, oral communication skills. Previous cash handling, retail and customer service experience required. Team player enthusiastic about history.
